Cardiovascular DIseases and Lesions, Lung Cancer and Other Lesions, Peripheral Vascular Disease
Why consult with me? Because I know what it is like to be a patient; because I have been treated for some of the same diseases I treat myself! So I can speak fist-hand as to the questions you may have as a patent as a doctor and as a patient. I recognize that most patients never get all their questions answered - either because they are afraid to ask or the doctor just doesnt answer. I face that problem all the time with my own family. Too often patients are concerned about the diagnosis, overwhelmed with the information they are given, and they have questions they forget to ask. Recognizing that they feel better asking someone who they feel more comfortable chatting with in a less stressful situation. I have found that by providing a "comfort zone" where patients can ask questions, no matter how silly they might think them to be is a great benefit AND leads to better outcomes. After all, an informed patient makes better decisions, participates more in his or her care, and usually has better outcomes. Besides - I have been through many of the procedures in which I have expertise, so I speak with the knowledge and experience of someone who has been on both sides of the equations!

Professional Interest
I am interested in the least invasive methods of treating diseases effectively and safely. This is why I began exploring minimally invasive surgical techniques and percutaneous (endovascular) techniques so long ago.
Ideal Client
I love talking with someone who has a keen interest to consider alternatives, with lots of questions, and recognizes that the ultimate responsibility for their care lies with them - not any doctor.

Current practice
Currently I perform in a consulting capacity (due to an injury) helping physicians, patients, attorneys and hospitals improve healthcare delivery and results. Prior to my injury, I performed a host of operations to treat thoracic and cardiovascular disease, including heart bypass operations, heart valve operations, aneurysm surgery, carotid artery surgery, lung cancer resections, and operations for thoracic trauma. In addition, I treated many lesions percutaneously, using stents, angioplasty and stent grafts - useful for treating aneurysms through the smallest incisions possible. The practice of cardiovascular and thoracic has been one of the most gratifying things I can imagine, allowing me to witness miracles close at hand while helping patients and their families through incredibly difficult times.
Honors and Awards
While a resident, I was named the outstanding clinical professor in surgery. I am not sure why a resident was chosen, and boy was I flattered...
