M. Boyd Gillespie

MD, MSc, FACS
Professional Focus Dr. Gillespie is double board certified in Otolaryngology and Sleep Medicine specializing in voice and airway disorders, swallowing disorders, and sleep apnea. Dr. Gillespie's medical interests include minimally invasive surgical and nonsurgical management of sinus cavities and obstructive sleep apnea. He was one of the first 4 surgeons in the United States to perform endoscopic salivary surgery and is currently the busiest endoscopic salivary surgeon in the U.S. Dr. Gillespie was involved in the education and training of many of the surgeons in the U.S. who currently perform endoscopic salivary surgery.

After graduating Magna Cum Laude and receiving his undergraduate degree from Davidson College, Dr. Gillespie earned his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He then completed an internship in General Surgery, a residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and a fellowship in Otolaryngology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Gillespie also earned a Master of Science in Clinical Research from the Medical University of South Carolina.

Currently, Dr. Gillespie serves as an Otolaryngologist Head and Neck Surgeon, the Chairman, and a Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

Dr. Gillespie's research focuses on sleep disorders, swallowing disorders, and hearing sciences. He has studied and written over 140 peer-reviewed research publications, is a key educational instructor for residents and fellows around the nation and globally, and has been a part of many clinical trials relating to his specialty.
